I think that I am going to look at creating some animations using various techniques to show multiple imagery in a different way. I think that if I think of an interesting storyline to focus this shoot around, then I will be able to create a really unique animation to represent animation. A good example of the type of animation that I would like to create is something like the work of Molly Watkins on YouTube:
I would like to create something similar to this, without using the chalkboard idea and just the animation idea. I want to use the same idea of taking multiple images and then editing them all together to create an interesting storyline for the shoot. I think that this is a good example of the type of animation that I would like to create.
Idea Two
I want to expand on the idea of taking photos of particular places at different times of day. I think that to do this, I need to go to quite busy areas so that I can see an actual change in the scenery which is why I think that it would be a good idea to go to an area in London such as Trafalgar Square or Picadilly Circus so that the environment is constantly changing. I might try and shoot so that I get there just before it starts getting dark so that you can see a significant change in the way that the scenery changes with all of the lights and the nightlife.
For example, these two photographs are taken from pretty much the same place but are obviously taken at different times of the day which I think highlights the way a particular environment can change. I think that it is clever how the sky changes over Trafalgar Square and also how the lights around the base of the statue are lit and illuminate the ground. I think that if I was to do this type of shoot then I would also try and capture the transition between the two to try and create a grid photograph. I would really like to try and complete this shoot to the best of my ability but it may be difficult to get more than one area because it will be hard to capture the transitions all at the same time with only one camera.
Idea Three
Much like idea one, I want to create an interesting animation video that I can use to represent some form of journey. I would have to think of an interesting journey and storyline that I could take in order to make sure that I have a good idea of what I am going to do. I think that it would be a good idea to do a journey on the train into an unknown area as I think that I could show this really well. I might do this shoot when I go to visit a university open day as I'm not going to know where I am as it'll be a new place. I created something similar of a 'journey to civilisation' shown below:
I thought that this was an interesting way to take photographs and to piece them together in a different way which is why I think that it would be a good idea to incorporate this multiple imagery idea into my project but with a lot more depth and thought behind it. I want to be able to have a good storyline in mind before I go out shooting and I need to make sure that I have enough memory to make sure that I can take a lot of images to make a longer video, thus making a longer multiple imagery example. In the video above, I ran out of memory on the camera which is why it finishes quite abruptly, however, this type I am going to make sure that I can take as many photographs as I want without any restrictions.
Idea Four
Another idea that I had in mind was to create some panoramic images using the multiple imagery technique. I think that if I can find some good views or streets then presenting them through a panorama would be a different and interesting way of showing them. I think that for this is would be a good idea to have a good variety of environment rather than just having panoramas of the city or just the forest which is why I think that I should go to lots of different areas so that I have a lot to edit together. I like the idea of going to London again for this photoshoot as I think that there are a lot of views and streets that would be a really good way of creating unique panoramas. I also like the idea of going down some areas that are covert and obscured so that I could maybe create some 360 degree panoramas so that the image sort of flows into one. This would also be an interesting physical experiment idea. I am thinking that I would like to try and create an image similar to this one to start off with and then expand what I am taking photos of to make the shoot more developed.
I like the idea of finding an interesting looking London skyline from the top of some buildings however finding the location would be quite difficult seeing as I don't really know where to look. I could do some research into finding this out so that I am prepared for the day of shooting. Even so, I already have an interesting location in mind where I can see the London eye and London bridge that I should be able to get access too quite easily. This is definitely a good idea that I have in mind for future shoots.
Idea Five
At some stage I would like to try and create some surrealism photographs because I think tat they add a new dimension to the idea of multiple imagery and give off a dreamlike effect that is hard to create with very simple images. I have a few ideas of how I could create these surreal images which include take photographs of lakes and trees and mainly forest themes and then editing all of the different photographs together in a way that is not the norm for photography. Hopefully the idea that I have in mind will work out really well and I will be able to create some unique and interesting looking photos using photoshop and some basic editing skills. For particular inspiration on this topic I have been looking at the photographers Jerry Uelsmann and Thomas Barbey for their strong grasp of surrealism photography connoting the idea of multiple imagery through their work. Here are a couple examples of each photographers work that I am looking at for inspiration.
Jerry Uelsmann:
Jerry Uelsmann:
I really like the look of all of these images and I think that the effect that they all give off is highly unique and intricate and I would love to create something similar to these images, no matter how hard they may be to create. I think that it is very clever how both photographers have managed to take the necessary photographs needed to piece together to make these surreal images that are very intricate and striking to look at. I would love to create similar images to these and hopefully they will turn out as good as these photographers have.
Idea Six
I would like to look further into experimenting with multiple exposure as a form of multiple imagery because I think that it is a good way of demonstrating the different ways that you can put two or more images together. I like the way that many photographers take advantage of this technique and I think that all of the different looks that the images give off are really intriguing and they can be very unique depending on the types of images that you put together. To complete this shoot I am especially looking at the work of Aneta Ivanova and Christoffer Relander, who I have looked at in great depth and therefore want to do a photoshoot entirely inspired by there work. Here are some examples of the work that they have created:
Aneta Ivanova:
Christoffer Relander:
All of Christoffer Relander and Aneta Ivanova's work is relatable to what I want to create because it all involves a much deeper understanding of multiple imagery that involves multiple imagery in a good way. I like the way that both of the artists get across all of their images because they don't simply use two seperate images. They put at least two but usually have around 3 or 4 images together to create a much more diverse image. I would love to be able to create photographs similar to these using the same type of techniques to experiment and see the type of image that I end up with.
