Personal Shoot 3

Slow Sync Image Bank

I liked the way that the photographer has managed to capture the movement of the card in this image and I especially like the way that they have managed to keep the main focus of the image on the card as it is highly in focused compared to the rest of the photograph.  I also think that the black and white effect on this type of image works a lot better as well as the colour would have looked odd against the black and white that would of originally been on the card.

I also think that the way that the photographer has got this to blend together really well.  It seems as though the entire image is two seperate photographs that have been blended together to create one really interesting and partially colourful looking photo.  I think that it is particularly interesting how the photographer has managed to put a childlike spin on the image to make it look as though the rainbow effect streaming down as changed the card to make it look more like a child has made it.  The slow sync technique that the photographer is using adds to the overall effect that the image gives off.

The way that the use of slow sync photography can capture the light area of images is appealing to me and has allowed me to fully understand the ways that you can capture light to make it look more diverse and interesting.  Through the use of slow sync in this particular image, it adds to the overall effect that the image is giving off as it somewhat brings the image to life and emphasises the excitement behind the image.

Much like the previous image, I really love the way that this photographer has obviously used a very long slow sync to show us all of the patterns that come out of the light show machines that you usually see at parties.  I think that this photographer has done a really good job as fully capturing the way that the light can reflect and give a much more interesting effect than if they were to simply take a normal picture.  It adds more dimension to the image and in this particular circumstance, it almost makes the image seem slightly 3D in the sense that it looks as though the lights are coming out of the image and behind projected out towards to person viewing the image.

I think that this image captures the more laid back and fun side of slow sync photography as the photographer has clearly wanted to capture the excitement that the child in the photograph is gaining from swinging on the piece of rope.  I think that the photographer has done a really good job at highlighting how you can use advanced and developed techniques in order to make a simple everyday photograph look a lot more exciting and action packed.  I also love the way that the photographer has managed to keep the child so in focus in contrast to the rest of the image.

I also think that this much more laid back approach to the slow sync side of photography has captured the essence of the game that is being shown.  I like the way that you can clearly see where the image has started and ended as it adds to the overall effect of knowing and wanting to know where the balls are going and where they end up.  Using the slow sync technique has allowed this photographer to capture the game in all of it's clory.

Personal Shoot 2 Work Record

Preparation

For this shoot I need to make sure that everything to do with my camera is prepared such as the battery the memory card and everything else is set up the way that I want it to be.  For this particular shoot I need very simple settings so I am going to use the AUTO function which can be highly effective if you want simple photographs.  I also need to make sure that I have someone who is able to come with me so that I can take photos of them.  I also need to make sure that they are willing to take lots of photos and move around a lot.

What I Hope To Achieve

From this shoot, I am hoping that I can create some good multiple imagery photographs that can show multiple people that are the same in one photograph.  I think that this is going to be hard when it comes to editing because obviously the photos are not going to be completely identical and I need to make sure that the model is positioned properly so that I can edit it together easier in photoshop.  Even so, I think that the overall photos that I am going to get are going to be unique and interesting and fun to create.

This is probably my favourite edit from the shoot because I think I managed to get across the idea that I was originally going for.  You can clearly see that it is the same person three times which is what I was aiming to do in all of the photos.  In the other images that I create it is harder to see that it is the same person and the more time the model is in one photo the harder it gets to make everything blend together well.  With this photograph I think that I managed to edit it together really well and you can't even see where the different images overlap which is what I wanted the photo to look like.  Even the lighting went well and it is same across the three different images which adds to the look of the final image.  If the lighting was funny this image would not have looked as good.

I wasn't overly happy with the way that this photograph turned out for a number of reasons.  Firstly the positioning of each person is slightly off because I didn't position him right when I was taking the images.  If I had thought more about the positions then it would have been a lot more effective.  I think it is fair to say that I rushed the finishing of this particular shoot because I wanted to try something a little different.  As well as this, the lighting on some of the bodies, isn't correct and to me it takes away from the look of the image.  For example, on the left hand side of the image the tree is a lot brighter than the person below it.  The lighting must have change when I was taking the images and blending them together has not seemed to work out very well. Other than that I think that the general look of the image is really effective and I might attempt this shoot again to get some more interesting edits.

Idea Development

If I was to re-do this photoshoot I would put a lot more time into the position of the person in each of the images.  I would also be more prepared with the camera meaning that I would take a tripod with me to make sure that the camera was not moving between each shot in order to keep it consistent and to make it easier when it comes to editing.   This would also keep the lighting the same in all of the images which means that the overall images would look a lot more effective.

What I Did Today

First of all I spent time editing some photos that I took over the weekend of the forest.  I enjoyed taking these photos and I have create some very simple multiple imagery photos using the images that I got.  Here are a few of them.

I also spent some time in the studio taking photos of expression and basic photographs of my face so that I could attempt to make some multiple imagery photos.  Even though the images that I got were quite basic, I still think that the images I got were interesting and I have created this quite interesting image from a few photos that I took.

Slow Sync Work Diary

Evaluation

Initially I thought that the shoot was going to be quite hard as the setting up for it was very technical.  Before shooting, I had to make sure that the aperture and exposure was all set up so that the images were the right amount blurred with a certain amount in focus.  It is important to get the balance between the two so that it was an actual slow sync photo and not going back into blur.  After I had set everything up, I actually really enjoyed experimenting with the images and get the subjects to move about more and create more intriguing looking photographs which I think worked really well.

When I took this photo, I thought straight away that it looked really interesting and intriguing.  The way the head is basically disconnected from the body makes it look really eery and spooky looking.  It is almost as though her face has just floated away.  This effect that I managed to capture has made for a really effective overall image.  I like the fact that there is also a continuous trail from the main subject to the head that is supposedly floating.

I also thought that the way that this photo turned out was also really effective.  It looks as though some form of spirit or ghost is floating out of her.  The way that this has turned out with the main focus being on the right hand side makes it seem very ghostly which I think is one of the main ideas being slow sync.

Idea Development

If I was to attempt this type of shoot again, I would definitely do a lot more experimentation if I had more time.  Using this technique, I think that I would be able to get some really interesting photos and I think that I could link it in with my personal project through taking lots of the same type of image and then linking them all together.

Essay Introduction

Multiple Imagery is a very important part of photography, due to the many different areas that are possible to explore surrounding the subject.  You can chose to look at many different forms of multiple imagery such as the basic multiple imagery concept that consists of simply placing one image on top of another.  You can choose to look more deeply into this technique through the use of techniques such as multiple exposures and multiple flashing that can also create really intriguing looks when you are shooting.  There is a lot that you can do with multiple imagery and it gives your photography work a completely different look that if you were to just simply take photos of whatever you see in front of you.  You can develop many different ideas through multiple imagery that can affect society and the issues involved.  You can show emotion and expression really well through various forms of multiple imagery which is a key factor when understanding multiple imagery in all of it's form.

Essay Plan

Introduction

  • Talk about Multiple Imagery and why it is important.  For example about all the different ways in which you can portray multiple imagery, such as multiple exposure, multiple flash etc.
  • Write about why it is important and why it would affect society.  Remember, do not write in first person.
Brief History

  • Explain how it all began, generally by accidentally not rewinding the film on old style cameras and taking another photo over the top without realising.  This was the way in which multiple exposure was created.
  • Look into multiple imagery and it's origins, explain a few of the first photographers that may have experimented with multiple imagery.
  • Mention all of the big names that gave multiple imagery a big name.
  • Explain how it is a lot easier to shoot in modern days and how it contrasts to when multiple imagery first came about.
Two Current Photographers

  • Look at and explain the styles of two photographers and talk about how their work is related to multiple imagery and how they have developed the idea of multiple imagery.
  • Include 2 examples of their work and analyse the photographs.
How Does Your Work Fit Into This

  • Include some 2 examples of my work that I have already done and analyse them talking about how they fit in with the topic.  Talk in first person here.
The Future

  • Talk about how multiple imagery has developed and how it would most likely develop in the future as technology and skills continue to improve.
Summary

  • Talk about all the points made in the rest of the essay and also why I wanted to look at multiple imagery.
Include a bibliography of every source used.

Personal Project Image Bank

This photograph made up of three different images, creates a form of panoramic view which is very effective for showcasing multiple imagery.  The photographer seems to have move around maybe in a 180 degree way and taken three different images in order to show more than just straight in front of the lens.  Creating these types of photos using multiple imagery is very effective and I really like the way that this one has turned out. The sun setting in the background, turning the clouds a yellowish, orange colour is also very nice to look at over the very uniform city below it.

This multiple exposure image, is very to the point and highlights how you can very simply put two photos over one another to create an intriguing and unique photo.  I chose to use this photo over some other ones because I like how the image of the boat is just as in focus as the hands behind it.  Usually with these types of image, there will be some sort of fading to show that they are two seperate images but still giving the same effect, however this image gives off the effect that the hands are actually holding the boat and the water in their hands.

The sequencing in this image is another good way at showing multiple imagery.  The photographer has placed them all very equal distances apart to show the way in which the gymnast performs a certain move and they have managed to show it really well.  I like the continuity in the image as you can see that everything flows really nicely and is meant to be where it is.  This is a very simple way of showing multiple imagery and I personally think that it works best with sport related photographs.

This is a very surreal example of multiple imagery. The floating trees in the middle of the image and also in the background, let the audience know that the photographer has obviously edited them in and has used them for dramatic effect which I think they have done very well.  The reflection in the water has obviously also been put there for effect to make the audience look twice at the entire image.  I think that a very surreal approach to multiple imagery is definitely something that I would like to explore and try out for myself, using this particular image as inspiration.

This is one of the first multiple exposure images that I came across and I automatically fell in love with the idea of multiple exposures.  The way that the photographer is able to get two very different images to blend together to make it look like they are combined intrigues me greatly and I now like to experiment with this technique as I think that if you are able to get an image as complex and detailed as this, then you have created a perfect image.  This very photo has given me a lot of inspiration to experiment with the features of multiple exposure.

The clock in the foreground of this image is the part of the photograph that first stands out to me.  The birds in the background, to me, seem like they work with the clock, signify how the birds can sit there all day and let the time fly by.  That is what the clock with the birds means to me and I think that this idea is very creative and imaginative and I really like the way that this photographer has gone about putting the photo together.

I love the drama in this image and I think that the way that the image of the buildings being slightly slanted is more effective in this particular image than if it were to be straight seeing as the subject is slightly tilted and is looking off into the distance.  The lights from the building and the light reflecting from her face is also very effective in creating a good image.

Even though his image is very basic in the way it is taken and put together, I still think that the idea behind the image is very good.  The photographer has obviously placed his camera in the same place and taken a picture every so often.  Placing them all next to each other it shows a timeline of how people come and go, but the place always stays the same.  The idea is very strong and I really like the idea behind the image.  I would definitely like to try and create something like this, maybe in some of London's well known areas such as Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus.

The structural lines at the front of this image is highly effective with this multiple exposure effect.  The way the front half of the face is a lot more faded than the rest of the image makes it seem like her face is fading away and that the photographer is attempting to re-construct her face.  This technique is very intriguing and it has inspired me to try and do a shoot based on this approach.

This image has a very dramatic effect to it and I think that the three seperate images combines make the image a lot better.  The light ring in the background adds to the overall look of the image and makes it seem slightly more mystical.  The light surrounding the hand and highlighting the edges of the hand makes it stand out amongst the trees in the background so that it does not fade away.

These type of multiple imagery photographs are extremely visually creative and I love the way that they look when they are finished.  I attempted to make something similar but it didn't work out very well so I am going to try again and make something that is similar to this.  I really like the way that this image looks and think that the drama in it is very imaginative.

This image is another photograph like the previous one which makes me think that it might be easier to achieve than I think it is.  The elegant hands with the tree at the bottom of the arm with the face slanting to the side, brings the whole photograph together and is highly effective in the imaginative side of things.

This image has appealed to me a lot because of the strong white gap down the middle of the subject.  It's really effective and I like the way that it kind of seperates the facial features form the rest of the image.  The rest of the image essentially being tree's slightly takes away from these features however the gap down the middle makes it a little easier to look at.
