For this shoot, much like the animation, I wanted to make sure that I had a lot of space so that I could take a lo of photos, in order to have a decent amount of variety to create some nice multiple imagery photographs. I also had to make sure that I had a couple of locations in mind so that I wouldn't know where to go when it actually came to shooting. Places like Covent Garden and Oxford Street that are always busy with people were places that I thought would be most interesting to go to in order to get a good variety of faces. Another factor that I had to make sure I had right was the distance that I would be away from the subjects. I realised that in order to get the best types of shot I would have to take them from a long distance and would therefore need to be able to zoom a lot further. Luckily, I have a 300mm lens that I fitted onto my camera so that I could get a good close-up of people passing by which I thought worked out highly effectively.
What I Hope To Achieve
For this shoot I am hoping that I am going to be able to get a good variety of faces from various shot types so that I can piece them all together to represent the variation in people. I am also hoping that I am going to be able to make some interesting looking edits rather than just simply placing individual images side by side. I am going to experiment a great deal with the types of edits that I can produce so that there is more variation amongst all the different faces. I haven't looked at that many photographs following the same idea that I want to capture as I think it will make the shoot more unique and interesting.
What I Actually Achieved
The shoot went really well and I think I got a great variety of shots and faces that I can really work with to get some good edits. Hopefully the shoot won't be that hard to edit but I think that it is going to be more of a time consuming task than a hard one which is why I think that I will be able to have more patience with it. Here are some examples of the work that I created.
This was my favourite edit from the entire shoot as I love the way that it shows all of the variety in the faces. This is exactly the way that I wanted the image to turn out because I think it shows what I wanted to get across really well. I like the way that all of the faces are different and all of the different angles that the photographs are taken from. I also like the way that all of the photographs have been taken so that the subject doesn't now that they are being shot, as it adds to the overall look of the images. When they are all placed next to each other I think that the effect of them all looking off into different directions makes for a much better image.
This was another one of my favourite edits from all of the different photographs that I got from the day. I like the way that I have pieced all of the photos together to show the levels of different people and the types of people that are around. For example, I like the way that there are people selling things, sitting or crouching down for a break and simply just walking around shopping. It highlights what London is all about and I think that by placing them all together in the way that I have, shows whoever is looking at the image, the variety that I was initially trying to capture.
This was more of an experiment that a serious edit, however I am really happy with the way that it turned out which is why I have included it. The performer on the far left had a really large crowd in Covent Garden and I thought that it would be interesting to get a picture of him and then individual pictures of the people's reaction to what was happening. I thought it would be interesting to see if I could make it look like they were actually watching the performances through the pictures. The way that I placed them all together has been really effective and I love the way that this image turned out.
What I Plan To Do Next
For my next shoot I am going to focus on some surrealistic ideas to present multiple imagery. I think that it would be interesting to see what types of edits I can create to indicate surreal ideas. For this I have looked at the work of Thomas Barbey and am planning to base the entire shoot around similar ideas as I have taken a lot of inspiration from his work. Hopefully, when it comes to editing I will be able to get the ideas across that I am going to try and capture.
